Need Transport?
Getting to the Slopes Without a Car? We’ve Got You Covered!
No car? No problem! We know getting to a ski resort can be tricky without your own wheels, especially with limited public transport options. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Just remember — staff accommodation can sometimes be up to 30 minutes away from your job, so it’s crucial to plan your transport ahead of time.
Here’s some helpful info for getting around in each state, with a little humor thrown in to make your journey smoother.
NSW – Snowy Mountain Transport Options
Bus – Greyhound
The trusty Greyhound will get you from A to B, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride to the snow.
If you prefer to skip the crowds, Uber services are in some resorts & might be your best option to get from point A to point B (just make sure you’ve got the fare ready!).
Shuttle – Snowy Mountains Shuttle
For a smooth transfer from the airport to your digs in Jindabyne, hop on a shuttle. Easy!
Ski Tube – From Bullocks Flat (15 minutes from Jindabyne) to Perisher & Blue Cow
Snow Link – Private Transport in the Snowy Mountains
Need something a little more personal? Snow Link offers private transport for those looking for a bit more comfort (and maybe a little extra room for your gear).
A Word of Caution: Hitchhiking – If you’re thinking of sticking out your thumb for a ride? While it’s not technically illegal to hitchhike in Australia, it’s a bit of a gray area. The person giving you a lift could get fined over $200 if they block traffic. So, let’s keep it safe and stick to the footpath — you’re legally in the clear there! There are a couple of Facebook group pages around now that provides opportunities to organise a lift up the mountains, check them out!
Plan Ahead: Always organise your lift the night before. Confirm a safe, clear meeting point to avoid any confusion.
Contribute to Petrol Costs: If you catch a lift, don’t forget to pitch in! A $5 to $10 contribution helps your driver out, especially since gas prices can be higher in country towns.
With a little planning and these transport tips, you’ll be hitting the slopes in no time. Safe travels — and don’t forget your snow gear!
